Obituary

Rueben Togstad, 93, of Maddock, ND,  died Thursday, September 24th, 2009, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby, ND.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 1, 2009,  1:00 PM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock.

Military Rites will be accorded by the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #23 of Maddock.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Thursday at the church an hour before the service.

Casket bearers will be:  Rodger Williams,  Mark Williams,  Donald Williams,  Fred Adrian,  Marvin Melaas and Dan Rangen.  Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren:  Derick Hoerauf,  William Primrose, Matthew Primrose and Hannah Eckert.  Music will be from Arlyss Bergrud, soloist with Rachel Markestad, pianist.

Rueben Togstad was born November 6, 1915, in Albert Township, rural Maddock, ND, to Lars and Trina Mathilda (Nerhagen) Togstad.  He was raised there and educated at the Albert rural school Number Two.  Rueben served in the Army from 1941 to 1945.  He married Olive Fossen on November 14, 1949 at Minnewaukan, ND.  She died July 29, 1957.  On February 6, 1959, Rueben married Mildred Lunde at Harvey, ND.  He farmed near Heimdal, ND and in Albert Township, near Maddock.  Rueben was also a skilled carpenter.  He retired in 1977 and moved into Maddock in 1986.

Rueben was baptized, confirmed and a life member of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Maddock and served as a deacon and cemetery sexton.  Upon its closure,  he became a member of North Viking Lutheran Church. He enjoyed all types of woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Reuben is survived by his wife:  Mildred of Maddock;  daughters:  Diane Togstad of Devils Lake,  Eileen Hoerauf of Spokane, WA and Janice (Henry) Sorenson of Minot;  4 grandchildren:  Derick (Heather) Hoerauf,  William and Matthew Primrose and Hannah Eckert;  a sister:  Hazel Williams of Maddock, a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  son-in-law:  David Hoerauf,  a grandson:  Bradley Hoerauf;  brothers:  Alfred, Norman,  Haldor,  Theodore & Orville and sisters:  Helen Palmer,  Agnes Togstad,  Bernice Adrian and Ella Lalum.

To my very special great uncle, I love you and you will always have a very special place in my heart.You were very good to me and although I am glad you are at peace in heaven, I will miss you.
