Obituary

Russell Anderson, 91, of Leeds, ND, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 in a Cando, ND hospital.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24th, 2013,  10:30 AM at the Lebanon Lutheran Free Church in Leeds with Pastor Brenda Burns and Pastor Mark Antal officiating.  Burial will be in the Leeds Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

Pallbearers are grandsons Dale and Darin Hall, Scott and Kyle Anderson and Bryce and Blake Zietz.  Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters Rhonda Roed, Teri Johnson, Laura Belle and Beth Haagenson. Music will be from Peggy Anderson, Bryce Zietz and Sid Bingaman.

Russell D. Anderson was born July 18, 1922 at home near Brinsmade to Arthur and Ella (Strand) Anderson.  He attended the Lake Ibsen Township School near Brinsmade.  He married Florence Crane on November 22, 1943 in Minnewaukan and farmed south of Leeds until retiring in 1988.  Florence passed away November 3, 1997.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Lebanon Free Lutheran Church where he was a lifetime member of the church, and served on various committees and boards of the church.  Russell also served on the board for Lake Ibsen Township.

Survivors include 3 daughters: Barbara (Kenneth) Hall of Devils Lake, Ella (David) Strinden and Betty (Kory) Anderson of Leeds; 2 sons: Douglas (Rennie) Anderson of Leeds and David (Peggy) Anderson of Bismarck; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by 3 sisters: Lucille Ketchum and Luella Follman of Leeds and Arlene (Walt) Stein of Marysville, Washington; 2 brothers: Richard (Jewel) Anderson of Devils Lake and Victor Anderson of Leeds; several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law: Mariam (Paul) Anderson of Mukiteo, Washington, Shirley (Don) Metz of Ventura, California, Pat Calderwood of Ballantine, Montana and Livonia Crane of Devils Lake, ND.

He was preceded in death by his wife Florence, his parents; 2 sisters: Helen (Orris) Nelson and Delores Atwood; brothers and sisters-in-law: Wallace and Helen Tarang, Mabel and Cloyd Vance, Walter Crane, Ray Crane, Ruby and Elmer Stein, Ernie Elverude, Don Kethum and Bud Follman; and nephews and nieces: Joann File, Larry Kethum, John Tarang, Lorendale Nelson and Todd Follman.
