Selma Sundet's Obituary
Selma G. Sundet, 87, of Maddock, ND, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 27th, 2010, 11:00 AM at Viking Lutheran Church rural Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Tuesday at the church an hour before the service. Casket bearers will be: Doug Arnston, Philip Backstrom, Rob Hatfield, James Hvinden, Dean Lindgren and Duane Stadum. Music will be from Jimmy Gilbertson, vocalist with Sheila Erickson, organist.
Selma Geneva Stadum was born January 21, 1923, in Broe Township, rural Baker, ND, to Carl and Mabel (Ness) Stadum and was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Esmond, ND. She attended school at Baker, ND and graduated in 1941 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock. Selma continued her education with a secretarial course at the North Dakota State College of Science at Wahpeton and worked for several years at the Agricultural Stabilization Office in Minnewaukan. She married Oscar (Toby) Sundet on October 2, 1948 at the Bethany Lutheran Church. The couple then farmed southeast of Maddock on the Sundet farm. Oscar died August 22, 1992. Selma remained on the farm for several years before moving into Maddock.
Selma was a member of Viking Lutheran Church and its WELCA. She also was a member of the Maddock 55 Club.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law: Debra and Steve Bates of Fargo; granddaughters: Kari (Rob) Hatfield and Rachel Bates all of Fargo and was soon to be a great-grandmother; a brother: Ernest (Lilly) Stadum of Fargo; sisters: Ina Stadum of Fargo and Elaine (George) Marquette of Milnor, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Norman, Clifford and Orville and a sister: Mildred Stadum.
