Signe Ness, 93, of Benson, MN, formerly of Devils Lake, ND, died April 14, 2010, at  Homestead Place North in Benson, MN.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 20th, 2010,  10:00 AM  at Christ Free Lutheran Church in Devils Lake with Pastor Dennis Gray officiating.  Burial will be in the West Minnewaukan Free Cemetery, rural Minnewaukan. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8pm with a 7pm Prayer Service all at the church.  Casket bearers will be:  Chad Ness,  Chris Helsene,  Steve Ness,  Larry Swenson,  Wade Ascheman  and Mike Wilcox.   Music will be from Rhonda Thompson and Rita Thompson Halvorson with Sid Bingaman, organist.

Signe Ness was born April 14, 1917 at Harlow, ND, the daughter of Elling and Liv (Larson) Swenson.  She was raised and educated near Harlow.  Signe married Laurice Ness on June 10, 1943.  The couple farmed in North Dakota until 1949 when they moved to Wadena, MN.  Signe was employed at Homecrest while living in Wadena.  In 1969, the family moved to St. Cloud, MN, where she worked at the Fingerhut company.  Signe retired in 1982 and moved to Devils Lake, ND.  In 2002, they became residents of Benson, MN.  Laurice passed away June 2, 2004.

Signe had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena and Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids.  Signe and Laurice were charter members of Christ Free Lutheran Church in Devils Lake.

Surviving are daughters:  Loretta (Donald) Klug of Sauk Rapids, MN,  Sharele (Roy) Ross of Williston, ND and Connie Nelson of Brainerd, MN;  a son:  Larry (Cheryl) Ness of Benson, MN;  10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her  parents, husband,  a granddaughter,  Kristen Klug,  all if her brothers and sisters including her twin brother, Lars and a son-in-law:  David Nelson.

I'm so sorry to hear about Signe's passing.  I worked with Signe at Fingerhut.  I was about 20, just married with my first child and spent many nights getting advice and lectures from her.  She was my friend.  I just drove by her house last week that was on the corner of 9th and wondered where she was and what she was doing.  The picture in the obituary must have been taken around the time I knew her because that is exactly how I remember her.
