Memorial Services for Stella A. Haagenstad, 95, of Devils Lake, formerly of Maddock, ND, will be Saturday, May 30th, 2009, 11:00 AM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Haagenstad died December 18, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
Stella Agnes Haagenstad was born on a farm in Norway Lake Twp, rural Maddock on October 6, 1913 to Olaf and Nina (Christianson) Kleven. She was raised and educated there. Stella married Joe Haagenstad on December 9, 1939 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Maddock. The couple farmed for many years northeast Maddock. Joe died August 6, 1991. Stella remained on the farm until moving the Lake Country Manor in Devils Lake and later to the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Stella was a member of North Viking Lutheran Church where she was also a member of the WELCA and taught Sunday school. She also has served as president of the Harvey Conference of the WELCA. Stella was active in the Maddock 55 Club, seniors meals, North Dakota Seniors United and the Benson County Senior Citizens Council. She was also assisted with the grant writing process for the Maddock Community Center. Stella enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.
Surviving are a daughter: Sonja Haagenstad of Minot; a son and daughter-in-law: Norman and Lori Haagenstad of Maddock; a grandson: John (Lacy) Bridgeford of Crookston, MN and very special friends: Dave and Jane Holje and family of Maddock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter: Lillian Bridgeford in 1988; a brother: Ernest Kleven and a sister: Evelyn Rosendahl.
