Susan Marie Olson, 38, of Esmond, ND passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at her home in Esmond. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Esmond in the spring. Music will be provided by Rachel Markestad.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Maddock Swimming Pool: 809 Railway Avenue Maddock, ND 58348 or the Maddock School Playground Fund: P.O. Box 398 Maddock, ND 58348.

Susan Marie Olson was born June 9, 1980 to Gene and Judy (Soderstrom) Olson in Devils Lake, ND. She was raised in Esmond and was an outstanding basketball player in high school. Susan graduated from Maddock High School in 1998 and attended the University of Winnipeg on a basketball scholarship. She then furthered her education, attending Minot State University and North Dakota State University, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science.

Susan worked as a federal food inspector for a number of years in Oregon and North Dakota. She was a hard worker and liked to help on the farm whenever she could. Susan's favorite pastime was spent with her family and special friend, Kota.

Susan is survived by her parents, Gene and Judy (Soderstrom) Olson, Esmond, ND; brother, Curtis (Codi) Olson of Maddock, ND; nieces and nephews, Macyn, Bryn, Cambry and Ty Olson; uncles, Verlyn (Betty) Soderstrom and Lyndon (Janet) Olson; aunts, Gloria Olson, Barbara (Ed) Shimmin and Joan (Joe) Davis; and numerous cousins.  Susan is preceded in death by her grandparents.
