Theodore Schuler, 72, of Leeds, ND and formerly of Langdon, ND,  died Monday, December 10, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks surrounded by his loving family after a long hard fight.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 12, 2012,  11:30 AM at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Leeds with Fr. Joseph D'Aco officiating.  Music will be from Lucia Jacobson.

Ted Schuler was born in Fargo, ND on March 11, 1940 and adopted by Joseph and Frances Schuler of  Mt. Carmel, ND.   He grew up on the family farm and attended country school.  The family moved to Langdon, ND and Ted attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School.  He served in the army at Colorado Springs, CO and did one tour of duty in Germany.  Ted married Mary Lou Nowatzki in 1963.

He had his own construction company in Seattle for many years.  After retiring in 2006 they moved to Leeds, ND where Ted still did a lot of remodeling and odd jobs.  He could fix almost anything or at least give it a good try.  Ted enjoyed working in his garden, playing his guitar, woodworking and spending time with his family.  He loved watching NASCAR races and would plan his weekends around them.  He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends.  He will be missed by all.

Ted is survived by his wife Mary, sons Kelly (Amy), Jeff (Sally), Donnie (Peggy),  Dean all of the Seattle area,  Chief  Petty Officer Jason (Julie) of Ft. Mead, MD, 7 grandchildren,  many nieces and nephews,  brothers:  George (Nona),  Flagstaff, AZ,  Al Sonju and  Mike Sonju, and sisters:  Margaret (John) Skjerven, Dorothy Sonju,  Irene Sonju, Eleanor (Dean) Theobald and Stephanie (John) Stober.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Joseph and Frances, birth mother Eileen Sonju Benhardus and brother Andy Sonju.

I heard the funeral over the phone. That was nice as it made me feel like a I was actually there.  Again Mary, you are the most wonderful wife Ted could ever have found and he was so blessed by the five beautiful sons you had.  I knew when I left in August that I would never see Ted and you again.  I honestly thought it would be me and not Ted!  Although at that time, I thought that I had the most energy between Ted, Al and myself.  I loved having Ted for my big brother and you as my sister-in-law.  I LOVE YOU.  Margaret
