Tilford Fossen, 90, Maddock, ND, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM. at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND, with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Visitation will be at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, on Thursday, November 6, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be at North Viking Cemetery, Maddock. Casket bearers will be Joel Benson, Nathan Benson, Brian Ordahl, Bruce Fossen, Kris Visness and Ryan Stevahn. Honorary bearers are grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many card player friends. Music will be provided by Rachel Markestad. Memorials are preferred to Maddock Ambulance, Maddock Fire Department, and Benson County Transportation.
Tilford was born on the farm near Heimdal, ND on October 16, 1924, to Engebret and Julia (Reirson) Fossen. He married Lorraine (Piper) Fossen on February 21, 1953 in Mineral Wells, TX. He farmed in the Brinsmade and Minnewaukan areas before retiring to their home in Maddock. Tilford drove taxi cab in Fargo and Texas and also worked at the elevator in Churchs Ferry, ND. Tilford served in the Army from September 1950 to September 1952 and was a Korean War Vet. He enjoyed and looked forward to his Wednesday evening card games with friends. He was a great cook and lefsa maker. He served as a Benson County Commissioner for 2 terms, Minnewaukan School Board, and Maddock Hospital Board.
Tilford is survived by his wife: Lorraine, children: Alicia (Joel) Benson, and twins Jim (Cindy) Fossen, and JoAnn (Brian) Ordahl. Grandchildren: Jessica (Benson) Montgomery, Heather (Benson) Symons, Amber (Benson) Boom, and Nathan Benson. Angela (Fossen) Visness and Monica (Knowlen) Stevahn. Breanna and Mataya Ordahl. Many great-grandchildren. Brother: Odin (Marlys) Fossen and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both parents; brothers: Julius, Melvin, Clarence, Bennie, Lloyd, Johnnie, Kermit, and Elvin, sisters: Mabel Johnson, Inga White and one infant.
