Obituary

Victor B. Lybeck, 93, of Esmond, ND passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, June 21, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Esmond. Music will be provided by Becky and Micki Brandvold. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Esmond VFW Post #4251: 3716 38 th Avenue NE Esmond, ND 58332 or the Esmond Café: 21 1 st Street NW B, Esmond, ND 58332.

Victor Bernard Lybeck was born March 21, 1928 to Helmer and Clara (Hillestad) Lybeck on the family farm in rural Baker, ND.  He graduated from Baker High School and furthered his education at Aakers Business College in Grand Forks.  Victor entered the United States Navy in 1951, serving on a cruiser, the USS Saint Paul.  Victor served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Tokyo.

Victor was united in marriage to Arlene Stadum on October 4,1956 at Bethany Lutheran Church rural Esmond.  The couple lived in Minot, ND while Victor continued to work for Gavin Yards.  Victor and Arlene would travel back to Esmond on weekends to help with the farming operations.  In 1963, the couple moved back to Arlene's grandparents homestead rural Esmond where Victor continued to farm until his retirement.  Arlene passed away November 2015.

Victor was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Devils Lake Elks Lodge, and Esmond VFW Post #4251. He served on the Esmond School Board from 1971-1975 and was caretaker of the Bethany Lutheran

Cemetery.  Victor liked bowling in his younger years and completing woodworking projects with his scroll saw later in life.  He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, talking about earlier years and his time in Japan.  Victor and Arlene often traveled to attend USS Saint Paul association reunions where he enjoyed reuniting with past shipmates.

Victor is survived by his children, Susan Zabel of Minneapolis, MN, Eric (Nancy) Lybeck of Idaho Falls, ID, Alan (Cindy) Lybeck of Minneapolis, MN and Paul (Linda) Lybeck of Leeds, ND; grandchildren, Hannah (Greg) Ordemann, Carter and Tim Lybeck, Clara, Andrew and Adam Lybeck, Katrina Foster and Kaylee Lybeck; great-grandchild, Blaire Foster; sister, Clenora (Lybeck) (Reverend Chester) Hoversten.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Arlene; parents, Helmer and Clara Lybeck; brother, Erling (MaryAnn) Lybeck.
