Obituary

Violet V. Halvorson, 86, of Leeds, ND, died Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND.  Funeral services will be Saturday, February 27th, 2010,  11:00 AM  at Lebanon Lutheran Free Church in Leeds with Pastor Brenda Burns officiating.  Burial will be later in the spring at the Lebanon Cemetery, rural Brinsmade.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church an hour before the service.   Casket bearers will be:  Greg Bauer,  Darwin Halvorson,  Harold Halvorson,  Dean Simonson,  David Smeltzer and John Sogge. Music for the service will be from Nancy Silliman, vocalist with Dorothy Stuberg, pianist.

Violet Vivian Halvorson was born July 4, 1923, near Harlow, ND, to Morris and Pernilla (Muri) Johnson.  She was raised there and graduated from the Harlow High School.  As a young girl, she worked as a cook for Louis and Minnie Hoff.  She married Hjalmer Hoff at Harlow.  The couple moved to Loma Linda, CA where she attended college and graduated as a licensed practical nurse.  Violet worked at the Loma Linda University Hospital before and after Hjalmer's death.  She retired in 1986.   Violet and Arland Halvorson were married June 19, 1987, at the Lebanon Lutheran Free Church in Leeds.  They lived and farmed near Leeds.

She was a member of the Lebanon Lutheran Free Church. Violet loved to travel, visit friends and was a perfectionist in cooking and baking.

Surviving are her husband:  Arland of Leeds;  sisters:  Irene Rzechula of Chicago, Il,  Ruby (Harold) Halvorson of Leeds;  a brother:  Lynn (Ilean) Johnson of Butte, MT;  brothers-in-law:  Darwin, Gerald & Harold (Ruby) Halvorson all of Leeds,  Richard (Sharon) Halvorson of Round Rock, TX;  numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents;  first husband:  Hjalmer Hoff;  brothers:  Morris, Charles, Edward and Robert Johnson;  sisters:  Edna Darling,  Lilly Kvallevag, Emma Smelzter and Esther Johnson.
