Violet Smith's Obituary
Violet Smith, 90, of Esmond, ND, died Wednesday, April 13th, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby. Memorial services will be Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Esmond, ND with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Burial will be in the Vasa Lutheran Cemetery, Esmond. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church. Honorary bearers will be: Arden Brorby, Curtis Brorby, Jack Zent, Karl Grossman, Kurt Brorby, Jason Brorby, Paul Hay , Joey Heilman and Kris Draeger. Music will be from Joann Bergrud, soloist with Paula Duren, pianist.
Violet Smith was born January 25th, 1921, to Erick and Mary (Olson) Smith in Isabel Township, rural Esmond, ND. She was raised there and attended the Isabel School. Violet cared for her mother until her death and resided with her brothers, Manfred and Irvin (Shorty) on the family farm. She lived for a time at the Maddock Memorial Home and then became a resident of the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby.
Violet was baptized and confirmed at the Vasa Lutheran Church. Following the closure of Vasa Lutheran, she became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of its WELCA. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends about family history, reading, painting, doing latch hook, playing cards and Tripoly.
Surviving are nephews and nieces: Arden (Arlys) Brorby of Maddock, Curtis (Jane) Brorby of York, ND, Cheryl Lodl of Detroit Lakes, MN and Diane (Jack) Zent of Washburn, ND; great-nieces and nephews: Kurt (Diane) Brorby, Jason & Misty Brorby, Celeste (Paul) Hay, Chantel (Karl) Grossman, Courtney (Joey) Heilman, Hope (Darin Adams) Schons, Allison (Kris) Draeger and Rachel (Brandon Sem) Zent; and great-great nieces and nephews: Bo Brorby, Ericka & Kassie Brorby, Callie Brorby, Abigail & Rochell Grossman, Whitney Schons, Logan Schons, Calvin Adams, Breanna Heilman, Carson Heilman and Garrett Heilman.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Manfred and Irvin (Shorty) Smith; sister and brother-in-law: Lillian and Oscar Brorby and a nephew: Larry Brorby.
