Virgil Ellingson, 81, of Harvey, ND, formerly of Heimdal, ND, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, ND. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND with Pastor Shirley Teske officiating. Visitation will begin one hour before the service. Burial will take place at the Klara Lutheran Cemetery in rural Maddock, ND. Military Honors will be provided by the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Virgil Ellingson was born on September 4, 1934 at the Harvey Hospital to Tilford and Clara (Bergland) Ellingson. They resided on a farm southwest of Maddock and Virgil attended the Hesper School for one year before the family moved to a farm north of Heimdal. He completed elementary school and two years of high school at Heimdal before graduating from high school at BCATS.
He was confirmed at the Klara Lutheran Church and helped on the farm before joining the United States Army and serving with the 89th Tank Battalion. He returned to Heimdal and helped on the farm and also worked for other area farmers. He began farming with his dad until his father retired and Virgil took over the farm. He married Agnes Duffey on October 22nd 1977 at the Klara Lutheran Church and they made their home northeast of Heimdal until retiring in 1996. Agnes passed away July 15th, 2012 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center Nursing Home in Harvey, ND.
Virgil is survived by his daughter in law, Jenny Duffey of Harvey, ND; sister, Rachel Ambers of AZ and MN; brothers, Byron (Ardyce) Ellingson of Heimadal, ND; sister-in-law, Pat Ellingson; one niece and seven nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; son-in-law, James Duffey; parents, Tilford and Clara Ellingson; three sisters, Dorothy Ann, Lois Diane and Betty Lou; brother, Tilford H. Ellingson; brother-in-law, Art Reichenberger and one nephew, Steven Reichenberger.
