Walter C. "Bud"  Hansen, 81, of rural Esmond, ND, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, ND.  Memorial Services will be on Monday, November 7, 2011 at  2:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating.  Burial will be in the Vasa Lutheran Cemetery, rural Esmond.  Urn bearers will be:  Corey Hansen,  Casey Hansen,  Brian Ruud,  Liam Eastman and Amanda Carvalho.  Music will be from Cory and Casey Hansen vocalists, with Margaret Toso, organist.

Walter Clinton Hansen was born April 12, 1930, on the family farm in Isabel Township, rural Esmond, ND, to Lawrence and Sigrid (Engkvist) Hansen.  He was raised there, attended the Isabel School and in 1948, graduated from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock.    On October 12, 1950, Bud and Laura Stevens were married at Esmond.  He farmed until 1971 then owned and operated Hansen & Wife Trucking until retiring in 1995.

Bud was baptized and a life member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond.  He enjoyed riding motorcycle,  restoring buggies, hunting and was a master target shooter.

Surviving are his wife:  Laura of Esmond;  5 children:   Sheila (William) Hanna of Mary Esther, FL, Frederick (Jinky) Hansen of Mountain Home, CA,  James Hansen of Esmond,  Susan (Robert) Ruud of Fargo and Marie (Alex) Lawson of Pawleys Island, SC;  6 grandchildren;  2 great-grandchildren;  a sister:  Ann (Raymond) Vaaler of Phoenix, AZ and a sister-in-law:  Renil Hansen of Devils Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  a sister:  Ruth Renfro and a brother:  Clifford Hansen.



Condolences:

I am the oldest daughter of Orlen and Ruth Guttromson who farmed a mile east and 1/2 mile north of Esmond until 1961 when they moved to Hawley, MN.  My oldest brother, Orlen Jr., worked for you and Bud one summer and talked about how he put one of your children inside a cream or milk can as a joke.  He truly liked being with your family. Orlen Jr. died about 6 years ago in California of a heart attack while picking up his dog from the groomer. He was truly an animal lover and fed many strays around the area he traveled in his work. My youngest brother, Roger, and I were in Esmond Wednesday for Lou Lunde's funeral when we heard about Bud's death. We were shocked and saddened. Our family thought very highly of Bud and you, Laura.
