Wayne N. Oeffner, 86, of Leeds, ND, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center in Rugby, ND. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28, 2012, 3:00 PM at Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds with Pastor Richard Budd officiating. Burial will be in the Leeds Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the church an hour before the funeral. Casket bearers will be: Greg Schmidt, Tim Tuchscherer, Scott Todahl, Dustin Schumacher, Russell Schumacher and Tex Smeltzer. Military Rites will be presented by the Leeds American Legion Post #101. Music will be from MiChelle Nybo, soloist with Dan Nybo, organist. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds is in charge of the arrangements.
Wayne N. Oeffner was born April 4, 1926, in Great Falls, MT the son of Walter and Nora (Landa) Oeffner. The family moved to Leeds in 1929. Wayne attended school in York and at Leeds. He then worked on the family farm until entering the Army in 1946 and was discharged in 1947. Wayne and Margie Torgerson were married on October 21, 1948 in Leeds. He worked in the construction business for many years and assumed the operation of the family farm in 1962, retiring in 1991. Margie passed away on October 14, 1982.
He was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church, active in the Leeds American Legion Post #101, a member of the Elks, Masons and Lions.
Surviving are a son: Steven (Tammy) Oeffner of Champlin, MN; 3 grandchildren: Dustin (Callie) Schumacher, Nicole (Jason) Liethauser and Amanda Oeffner; 3 step-grandchildren: Breanna, McKenzie & Jordyn Wagner; 2 great-grandchildren: Nathan and Aubrey Liethauser; a sister: Deloris Kolstad of Sioux Falls, SD; a number of nieces and newphews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Margie; a daughter: Julie Schumacher in 1996 and a brother: Russell Oeffner.
